Week 25 Saturday Fixtures
There were a total of eight fixtures in the Premier Division of the Southern Combination Football League and one fixture involving one team in the F.A. ISUZU Challenge Vase 4th round match where Peacehaven and Telscombe travelled to Surrey to play Egham Town. On paper, the top three teams seemed to have games which they should win, but nothing was easy now. The two Eastbourne teams were playing teams from mid-table and the two teams in the relegation zone were having a Saturday break.

The very wet, windy and cold weather again interrupted the fixture programme with a total of six Premier Division games and one FA Vase game postponed.Lingfield were the lucky team playing Newhaven on their 3G All Weather Artificial pitch and the "Withdean Stadium" was declared playable for AFC Uckfield Town to travel down to play AFC Varndeanians.
AFC Varndeanians V AFC Uckfield Town (14th January)
AFC Varndeanians had AFC Uckfield Town visit the "Withdean Stadium" with both teams looking to stop runs without a win. The "Vs" had not won any of their last six games and the "Oakmen" were on a four game losing run. AFC Varndeanians took the lead a few minutes before halftime with a goal by Finley Agnihotri and later right on the stroke of halftime Finley Agnihotri scored his second as they doubled their lead giving the "Oakmen" a lot to do in the second half. Almost straight from the restart, the lead was reduced when a cross field ball from captain Ellison Wright was headed by a AFC Varndeanians defender into his Own Goal. Not to be downhearted, AFC Varndeanians restored their two goal lead a few minutes later with a goal from Tommy Dean Boyle. It was all action later to reduce the lead again when Harvey Burgess volleyed the ball past the goalkeeper at the back post. Not to be outdone the "Vs" then went and restored the two goal lead midway through the second half with a great finish by Alfie Mitchell. With only a few minutes of the second half remaining, Frazer Middleton-Tozer scored to bring it down to only one goal between the two teams. Time ran out for AFC Uckfield Town as AFC Varndeanians hung on for a 4-3 home victory.

The rain had stopped and the wind had eased down as the game got underway. Newhaven took the lead midway in the first half when a goal was scored by Connor Sidwell from a corner. Straight from the second half restart, the "Dockers" doubled their lead when Lee Robinson scored then later in the half Lingfield scored to half the lead. A little while before the final whistle Lee Robinson scored his second goal to give Newhaven a 3-1 home victory which consolidated their second position in the Division, three points behind the leaders who now have two games in hand.

Peacehaven & Tels V Crowborough Athletic (10th January)
After a pitch inspection had been completed, the pitch was declared playable so the battle was on to see who could progress closer to the final at the Amex Stadium at the end of the season

On a very windy evening with rain in the air the game got underway, both teams struggled to settle down as the wind was causing havoc. Both sides had chances but they were few and far between but very late in a scrappy first half, the "Crows" went ahead. Rory Salter whipped in a cross from the right which found Lucas Murrain who made no mistake from close range. The second half required a full attack by Peacehaven and Telscombe and a full defence from Crowborough Athletic and it all ended in a goalless second half which gave Cowborough Athletic a 1-0 away win..A brilliant performance in terrible conditions by the entire team moved the "Crows" into the quarter-final of the Senior Challenge Cup. Meanwhile the "Haven" must regroup and prepare for their FA Vase game against Egham Town this coming Saturday..
