Week 26 Saturday Fixture Preview
There were a total of eight fixtures in the Premier Division of the Southern Combination Football League to be played today with three of the top four in the division playing away to lower placed teams. Peacehaven and Telscombe were trying again to play their fourth round F.A. ISUZU Challenge Vase game away to Egham Town, who are currently third in the Combined Counties Football League. Premier Division North.
Roffey V Steyning Town (19th January)
Previously Roffey had hastily switched their home game against Steyning Town from Saturday afternoon forward to Thursday evening to the all weather 3G pitch at the "Birchwood Ground". The first half was goalless with only a few chances played in conditions which made the all weather 3G pitch very firm. Only minutes into the second half, Jack Langford raced clear of the Roffey defence and finished well. Roffey battled on to the end but could not find that bit of quality in front of goal, so Steyning Town recorded a 1-0 away victory which moved them up into third place in the Premier division.

Seven Saturday game postponed
Another cold, sunny but frosty morning greeted all the teams as they prepared for their afternoon encounters. Morning pitch inspections caused six games to be postponed, leaving only two games to be played in the Premier Division... The F.A. ISUZU Challenge Vase game has been postponed by the match referee due to an unsuitable playing surface and the teams, Egham Town at home to Peacehaven and Telscombe will try again next Saturday 28th January 2023.
Eastbourne Town V Bexhill United (21st January)
The pitch was declared playable at the "Costa Del Saffrons" where Eastbourne Town played their home fixture against Bexhill Town having lost the away fixture earlier in the season. They did however narrowly beat Bexhill Utd in an early round of the FA Vase. Towards the end of the first half, Bexhill United were awarded a corner and from the resulting corner ball, Stephen Okoh headed the ball into the goal to give the "Pirates" a slender lead at half time. Late drama at the "Saffrons" with the latest of equalisers well into time added on as Eastbourne Town finally scored with a scrambled goal by Delwin Duah to make the final score 1-1 with a point to both mid-table teams.

Lingfield V Crowborough Athletic (21st January)
Lingfield played their home game against Crowbourogh Athletic at the ground of their opponents at the "Community Stadium" where they badly lost the reverse fixture earlier in the season. Lingfield were hoping for three points from this game but had a hard job against Crowborough Athletic who had won their last three games in the Premier division. Midway through the first half, a cross from the left by Harry Forster is controlled by Leo Vowles who then drives forward and smashes the ball home from close range. Lingfield struck back immediately to level the score when they were awarded a soft free kick scored by captain Conor Wilford, but it was short lived when a few minutes later after some accurate link play, Ollie Hyland drove into the goal area and passed to Lucas Murrain who tapped the ball into the goal from the goal-line. Crowborough took the lead at the break at the end of a very even first half played in very tough conditions. Straight from the restart, Lingfield were awarded a penalty which was converted by Conor Wilford to level the score again and then almost immediately Lingfield scored again with Conor Wilford completing his hat trick to take Lingfield lead into and secure a well earned 3-2 home victory but they still stay too close to the bottom of the Premier division.

Week 27 Midweek Fixture Review
The weather is showing no signs of warming-up at the moment so there must be some doubt over the mid-week fixtures being played. There are a total of three fixtures in the Premier Division of the Southern Combination Football League to be played. Bexhill Utd travel along the coast to play Peacehaven and Telscombe at a time when both teams are in good form. Little Common have a difficult game when they travel to the "Trafalgar Ground" to play second placed Newhaven. Having recently won six Premier division games, Eastbourne Town, who are the visitors to the "Oaks", are hopeful of victory over AFC Uckfield Town who have lost their last five games in the Premier division.
Week 26 Midweek Fixture Review
There were a total of four fixtures in the Premier Division of the Southern Combination Football League to be played on Tuesday. Broadbridge Heath had a chance to add more points to their total in the chase for the leaders position when they played AFC Varndeanians as did Peacehaven and Telscombe but they had a difficult game away to Hassocks. Leaders Crawley Down Gatwick had to make the trip to play Loxwood. Two teams near the bottom of the division fighting for points as Lingfield were at home to Little Common. There was also one rearranged fixture in the Sx.C.F.A. PARAFIX Senior Challenge Cup. 2nd round between Eastbourne Utd AFC and Midhurst and Easebourne at the "Oval".
GAMES OFF
The weather has now changed from cold, wet and windy to cold, dry and frozen which has caused all four games in the Premier Division to be postponed because the ground was frozen and unsafe for players and supporters...It is still Winter!!!!.. The pitch at the "Oval" passed an afternoon inspection for the Senior Challenge Cup. 2nd round match to go ahead but when the referee inspected the pitch in the evening, he deemed it unplayable and the game was postponed. SO NO FOOTBALL TONIGHT.
