Week 5
On the Tuesday of Week 5, there were two FA Challenge Cup Preliminary round replays. Eastbourne Town were at home to Virginia Water and Newhaven were at home to Sheppey Utd. On a warm overcast evening with a light breeze, the early kick-off game got underway at the "Saffrons" followed by the later kick-off game at "Trafalgar Ground" on the new 3G pitch. Both games will be played to a finish tonight with extra-time and penalties if required
Eastbourne Town V Virginia Water Youth (23rd August)
Eastbourne Town got off to a lively start in their game against Virginia Water with chances and penalty shouts by both teams. Lloyd Francis had a good chance but the score was still goalless at half time. The visitors started with all the possession but the "Town" went ahead after a goal scored by Lloyd Francis. Their lead was short lived as a few minutes later saw Casey Bacarro convert a penalty for the visitors. In a very open game, both teams made player changes as they looked to get the winner with end to end chances. With the game ending all square at the end of normal time, it was into extra time and possibly penalties. Virginia Water took the lead in extra time with a goal from Reece Probert soon after the game was all square again when Nathan Hover converted a penalty with a fierce shot into the top corner of the goal. Into penalties and after several misses, Eastbourne Town came out as 4-3 winners on penalties and now will be playing at home to Hanwell Town in early September in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Challenge Cup together with Midhurst and Easebourne and Peacehaven and Telscombe.

Newhaven V Sheppey United (23rd August)
It took some time for Newhaven and Sheppey Utd to settle down and get used to the new 3G playing surface. The visitors started the better but Newhaven came into the game with chances to Charlie Bennet and Lee Robinson. With the score goalless at half time, it was all to play for in the second half with Sheppey Utd needing to be carefull having picked-up two yellow cards in the first half. In the second half Alfie Rogers put Newhaven ahead but it was a very short lived lead when substitute Jefferson Aibangbee scored for Sheppey Utd who took the lead a little later with a goal scored by Danny Leonard which turned out to be enough to give a 2-1 win to Sheppey United who will play at home to Lewes in the next round.

Bank Holiday Weekend
On the Bank Holiday Saturday of Week 5, there were thirteen games involving fifteen teams in the 1st Qualifying round of the FA Challenge Vase. Five teams will be having a break ready for the following full set of fixtures in Week 6. Any drawn match at the end of full time will go straight to a penalty shoot-out. There will be no extra-time or replays. Of the games played, only four were lost by teams from the SCFL. Seven games were won in normal time and two were won on penalties.
Lingfield V Shoreham (26th August)
Lingfield moved their home tie against Division One Shoreham in the FA Challenge Vase from the "Lair" to the 3G pitch at Steyning. Shoreham got off to a quick start when Alex Fair scored in the first minute and they doubled their lead later on when Harry Heath scored with a powerful header from a corner. The "Musselmen" went further into the lead when Alex Fair scored his second goal. Lingfield were stung into action and pulled a goal back late in the first half and then reduced the lead even further with a goal just before the half time whistle bringing to an end a mad goal fest action packed half. The second half was an anti-climax as there were no more goals scored so a narrow 3-2 victory went to Shoreham.

AFC Uckfield Town V Peacehaven & Tels (27th August)
AFC Uckfield Town started well against visitors Peacehaven and Telscombe by going ahead mid-way in the first half. A penalty was awarded to Peacehaven and Telscombe which was converted by Tegan Freeman and then minutes later Ross Barclay struck just before half time to give his team the halftime lead. In the second half, an Own Goal from a Harry Docherty free kick gave the 3-1 victory to Peacehaven and Telscombe and a home game against Welling Town in the next round.

AFC Varndeanians V Jersey Bulls (27th August)
A tough game was in store for AFC Varndeanians when they played the Jersey Bulls at home. Sol Solomon started the scoring for the "Bulls" followed by Lorne Bickley and then Sol Solomon scored his second to give the visitors the lead at halftime. Later in the second half, an Own Goal went to the visitors and in the last few minutes a goal from Mark Goldson could not deny the Jersey Bulls deservedly winning 4-1.

Alfold V Deal Town (27th August)
Alfold suffered an early setback in their home game against Deal Town when Aaron Millbank converted a penalty in the first few minutes. In the second half Aaron Millbank converted another penalty and then soon afterwards Connor Coyne scored. Kelvin Lucas pulled a goal back for Alfold but Deal Town earned a 3-1 victory.

Erith Town V Loxwood (27th August)
Within the first minute Loxwood went behind in their away game with Erith Town when Alfie Eldridge scored and the deficit was further increased by Steadman Callender and Harry Taylor in the first half. The second half was just the same with Steadman Callender scoring his second goal then Harry Taylor scorting his second goal and finally Alfie Eldridge scored his second goal to complete a 6-0 win for Erith Town.
Faversham Strike Force V Horsham YMCA (27th August)
After a goal was disallowed for Horsham YMCA in the first few minutes of their game away to Faversham, the first half ended goalless. Late in the second half Archie Goddard chased a long clearance from Aaron Jeal, robbed a defender and smashed a long low shot into the bottom corner of the goal. In added time of the second half Archie Goddard did the same again, he collected a long clearance from Jonathan Kusaka to give Horsham YMCA a 2-0 victory and a game away to Bexhill United in the next round.
Hailsham Town V Newhaven (27th August)
Hailsham Town played out a goalless draw at full time at home to Newhaven. The Newhaven players had been camped out in the Hailsham half all game but had been unable to convert any chances. Finally into the penalty shoot out which saw a 5 - 4 victory go to Newhaven who will be at home to Eastbourne Town in the next round.

Lewisham Borough V Broadbridge Heath (27th August)
Broadbridge Heath travelled to south London to play Lewisham Borough and went ahead in the first half after a pass from Sam Lemon was collected by Lewis Croal who scored. In the second half a pass from Lewis Croal was collected by Sam Lemon who put the visitors further ahead. A goal by Chuk Nwabani-Aoko for Lewisham halved the lead later. The 3-1 victory was sealed when Lewis Croal had a penalty saved but he scored from the rebound and set-up an away game against Erith and Belvedere in the next round.
Lordswood V Crowborough Athletic (27th August)
A very tight game was played at Lordswood as Crowborough Athletic were the visitors. Harry Foster scored late in the first half and then in added time in the second half Harry Foster scored again to give a 2-0 victory to Crowbough Athletic and a home game against Midhurst and Easebourne in the next round.
Midhurst & Easebourne V Greenways (27th August)
Midhurst and Easebourne went ahead very early in the first half when Charlie Osborne scored in their home game against Greenways. The score was levelled in the second half by Simon Watson and the game headed towards a penalty shoot-out. With a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win Midhurst and Easebourne go into the next round to play away to Crowborough Athletic.

Saltdean United V Kennington (27th August)
Kennington travelled from Kent to play Saltdean United and scored first with a goal by Tom Scorer. A penalty converted by Joe Fisher and later a goal from Rojan Sahni only for Ryan Paul to score for the home side and completed the first half scoring. The second half saw more goals with Edward Miller scoring early followed soon after by Rojan Sahni with his second and then Liam Middleton tapped in the last goal to complete a 6-1 victory for Kennington.

Selsey V Eastbourne Utd AFC (27th August)
Eastbourne United AFC had a trip along the coast to play Selsey and took the lead in the first minutes when Aaron Hopkinson scored after a long solo run. A header from Harvey Mapstone doubled the lead before half time. George Taggart increased the lead straight from the restart and then Tarun Rohilla added another goal before Harry Mapstone scored his second to complete a 5-0 victory for Eastbourne United AFC who go on to play away to Pagham in the next round.

Steyning Town V Little Common (27th August)
A single goal late in the second half was the result of the home game of Steyning Town against Little Common. Samuel Ellis scored the winning goal to give Little Common a 1-0 win and a home game against Molesey in the next round.

On Bank Holiday Monday of Week 6, there are eight games in the Premier Division of Southern Combination Football League followed by two more on Tuesday Evening followed by a full set of ten fixtures on the following Friday and Saturday of Week 6.
