Week 6
On Bank Holiday Monday of Week 6, there were eight games in the Premier Division of Southern Combination Football League kicking off in the morning followed by two more on Tuesday Evening.
AFC Varndeanians V Peacehaven & Tels (29th August)
Peacehaven and Telscombe took their unbeatable form to play AFC Varndeanians hoping to keep the good form going. Max Hollobone put the visitors ahead with a strike to the top corner of the goal midway through the first half. At the start of the second half, a corner ball from Callum Edwards was headed home by Harry Docherty to seal a 2-0 away win for Peacehaven and Telscombe and confirmed their position as the Premier Division leaders.

Bexhill United V Eastbourne Utd AFC (29th August)
Eastbourne United AFC made the short trip to play Bexhill United, as both teams hoped to keep their good runs going. "United" got off to a flying start, when Ellis Cormack scored straight from the kick-off. Later in the first half Max Thompson scored followed by George Taggart with a pile driver of a shot into the goal to give the visitors a good lead at halftime. Straight from the start of the second half, Haydon Beaconfield pulled a goal back for the "Pirates". The substantial lead was confirmed when Max Thompson scored his second but it was reduced again by Joe Summerbee after some juggling of the ball with the home side goalkeeper. An excellent game with full effort from both sides, but Eastbourne United AFC held on to record a 4-2 victory and maintain third place in the Premier Division.

Broadbridge Heath V Alfold (29th August)
After a goalless first half, home side Broadbridge Heath took the lead early in the second half when Samuel Lemon scored. This lead was soon doubled when Sean Terry scored for the "Bears". Alfold scored a consolation goal by Karim Elemilas at the end of the second half but Broadbridge Heath ended the game with a 2-1 home win and sit in fourth place in the Premier Division.

Crowborough Athletic V Crawley Down Gatwick (29th August)
Crowborough Athletic had a home game against visitors Crawley Down Gatwick and got off to a good start midway in the first half when Harry Foster had a simple tap-in. In the second half Morgan Vale doubled the lead before the "Crows" had two players sent off, Ollie Hyland and Jack Mayhew. The "Anvils" fought hard and pulled a goal back scored by Rhys White right at the end of the game leaving Crowborugh Athletic with a 2-1 home win.

Eastbourne Town V Little Common (29th August)
Eastbourne Town started their home game against Little Common on a good note when Fletcher Holman went flying down the right wing and scored. The visitors then missed a penalty but then struck back right on half time with a goal from Lewis Hole to level the score. After Little Common had seen their player Lewis Parsons sent off in the second half, Fletcher Holman scored his second for "Town" when he pounced on a goalkeeper error. The final goal was scored well into added time for Little Common for the game to end in a 2-2 draw.

Hassocks V Roffey (29th August)
Roffey travelled to play Hassocks still looking for their first goal and first point of the season. The game started badly for the visitors when after only a few minutes Jack Troak scored from the penalty spot. An Own Goal by Patrick Gibbs increased the lead then a goal from Phillip Johnson and another by Phillip Johnson right on half time put the home team in a good half time lead. Roffey held their own for much of the second half until Alex Bygraves scored with a header from a James Westlake corner. Samuel Smith then got on the score sheet followed by Jamie Wilkes in added time to complete a 7-0 home victory for Hassocks.

Lingfield V AFC Uckfield Town (29th August)
In the first half the only goal was scored with a calm finish by Harvey Burgess for AFC Uckfield Town in their away game against Lingfield. The lead was increased in the second half by Andrew Dalhouse with a fine shot from outside the penalty box which was followed by a second goal for Harvey Burgess and a 3-0 away win for AFC Uckfield Town.

Newhaven V Saltdean United (29th August)
Another team looking for their first win of the season was Saltdean United and they had a tough task in an away fixture against Newhaven. On their new 3G artificial pitch, Newhaven took the lead very late in the first half when a powerful shot from Alfie Rogers found the back of the goal. Straight from the restart Alfie Rogers scored his second goal with a header and then a penalty was awarded to the "Dockers" which Alfie Rogers converted to claim a hattrick. To complete the scoring in the blistering early ten minutes Jack Mears scored from a corner ball. The scoring was completed by Marley Ambler to give Newhaven a 5-0 home win.

Horsham YMCA V Steyning Town (30th August)
It was a goalless first half at the Horsham Family Lawyers Stadium where Horsham YMCA were playing at home to Steyning Town. Both teams put in a solid performance and had good chances but failed to convert any of them and the referee joined in the fun with some remarkable baffling decisions. Early in the second half YMCA took the lead after a foul on Tom Tolfrey was then taken by him and he buried the ball into the top left corner of the goal. That was the only goal of the game and gave Horsham YMCA a 1-0 home win with another clean sheet and remained second place in the Premier Division.

Loxwood V Midhurst & Easebourne (30th August)
All the goals were scored in the first half of the home game of Loxwood against visitors Midhurst and Easebourne. Midhurst and Easebourne went home with an 2-0 away win

Week 6
On the Friday and Saturday of Week 6. there was one game on the Friday at Little Common and seven games on the Saturday in the Premier Division of the Southern Combination Football League. Three clubs had games on Saturday in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Challenge Cup. Horsham YMCA were having the weekend off.
Little Common V Hassocks (2nd September)
Little Common started the scoring early when Lewis Hole tapped in a ball from close range after it was cut back from the left wing only minutes into the start of the first half. In the second half Hassocks had many chances to equalise and take the lead but they all came to nothing. In the end the home team scored midway through the second half with an easy header from the team's first corner by Lewis Parsons, Hassocks now have it all to do in the remainder of the second half. No more goals scored so Little Common had a gutsy 2-0 home victory, their first of the season..

AFC Uckfield Town V Loxwood (3rd September)
Early in the first half visitors Loxwood were awarded a penalty which was converted by Devon Fender to the bottom corner of the goal. Soon after, AFC Uckfield Town responded with a goal from Harvey Burgess. The lead was increased just before half time by Cameron Williams as he rose the highest to head the ball home. Straight from the restart, George Cousins scored from close range to level the score and soon after a screamer of a shot by Solomon Taiwo put the "Oakmen '' back into the lead. With the game getting rather boisterous, Harvey Burgess scored his second goal and then Devon Fender scored his second for the "Magpies" but AFC Uckfield Town still gained a 4-3 home victory.

Alfold V Crowborough Athletic (3rd September)
Alfold played at home to Crowborough Athletic and went behind midway through the first half when Oliver Hyland scored with a header. In the second half the "Crows" went down to ten players when Harry Forster was sent off. This seemed to spur the visitors into action as immediately Oliver Hyland scored his second goal but Archie Fuller immediately scored for the home side. The game was put beyond doubt well into added time when Karl Akehurst scored to give a 3-1 away victory to Crowborough Athletic and they climb to third place in the Premier Division.

Crawley Down Gatwick V Broadbridge Heath (3rd September)
Broadbridge Heath took the lead in the first few minutes of the game when they travelled to play Crawley Down Gatwick. Sam Lemon put the visitors ahead who then woke up which allowed the "Anvils" to draw level with a goal from Sammy Clements. Just before halftime, the lead was restored for the visitors with a goal from Jack Frankland. A second goal for Sam Lemon increased the lead but was immediately reduced again with a second goal for Sammy Clements. The result was put beyond doubt when just before full time Lewis Croal scored to give Broadbridge Heath a 4-2 away victory and a jump to top spot of the Premier Division.

Eastbourne Utd AFC V AFC Varndeanians (3rd September)
Eastbourne Utd AFC were in control of their home game against AFC Varndeanians but somehow they allowed the visitors to take the lead early in the first half when Finley Agnihotri scored after a defensive error. Just before half time, the score was levelled for the home side when Sam Cole scored. Midway through the second half, Jeongmin Choi scored with a first-time strike into the top right hand corner of the goal to give the "V's" the lead. With time running out, the score was levelled by a Harvey Mapstone free kick after he was fouled which meant the points were shared in a 2-2 draw after an exciting game right until the final whistle.

Roffey V Newhaven (3rd September)
Roffey were still struggling to get their first points of the season and their home game against Newhaven was not an easy one. They were behind at half time and went further behind in the second half when they had goalkeeper Alexander Thynne sent off for handball outside the area. After a slow start to the season Newhaven picked up the points for a 6-0 away victory.

Saltdean United V Lingfield (3rd September)
Saltdean were hoping for their first win of the season when Lingfield were the visitors to "Hill Park". Lingfield were hoping to complete their first double of the season after the very narrow victory in early August. Lewis Beebee put the home side ahead midway through the first half then disaster when Jamie Craddock was sent off. A penalty was then awarded to the "Tigers" which was converted by Lewis BeeBee. Lingfield pulled a goal back in the final minutes and then there was still time for Lewis Beebee to complete his hattrick and be made MOTM and to give Saltdean United a well deserved 3 -1 home victory.

Steyning Town V Bexhill United (3rd September)
Two mid table teams played each other when Bexhill United travelled to play Steyning Town on the all weather 3G pitch. After an error by the home side goalkeeper, Dayvern Downer pounced on the ball and scored to put the home side ahead at half time. Early in the second half Grant Radmore scored to double the lead and then later Grant Radmore scored again to give with a stunning volley off the post give Steyning Town a 3-0 home victory and satisfaction with a great performance.

FA Cup
Our three teams in the FA Challenge Cup all suffered defeat at the feet of higher quality teams. Peacehaven and Telscombe were beaten 5 - 2 by Chesham Utd from the Southern League South Premier Division. Eastbourne Town were beaten 2-0 by Hanwell Town also from the Southern League South Premier Division. Midhurst and Easebourne were beaten 6 - 0 by semi professional Chatham Town from the Isthmian South East Division.
Week 7
All the midweek games in Week 7 have all the teams from the Premier Division and several teams from Division One of the Southern Combination Football League competing in the second round of the Peter Bentley Challenge Cup. All games will be played to a finish in the first match. If the scores are level at the end of normal time the taking of penalties shall determine the winner.
